Notes

  • The MFCTool v. 10 is used to map magnetic fields with the Magnetic Field Camera MFC2046. The MFC2046 system contains an NMR Precision Teslameter PT2026, which can also be used for single-point measurements – even with an MFC9046 or MFC9146 Probe Array; in this case, the Probe Array is seen as a multiplexer with individual probes. To perform single-point measurements with your PT2026, please download and install the PT2026 software. MFCTool and the PT2026 software can both be installed on the same computer.
  • MFCTool v. 10.2 requires at least PT2026 firmware version Tag_19_04_17 to be fully operational, and the Camera firmware option. To check whether these conditions are met, look at the main unit description in the MFCTool v10.2 connection page; it should read:

elXXXXXX-arm1.21-dsp2.8-cpld1.9-paXXX-optXXXXXXX1

where “X” represents irrelevant letters and digits.

  • At this time, MFCTool v. 10 does not support the previous generation Magnetic Field Camera MFC3045.
  • For a detailed installation procedure, see Section 2-2 of the MFCTool User’s Manual.

  1. Download and install the NI-VISA Run-Time Engine 15.5:

In the development of our new extremity MRI magnet, the choice of the metrology instruments was critical. Precision, reliability and potential to scale-up to production were the key selection parameters, all for a 160 mm DSV! The recently launched MFC9046 from Metrolab is the only NMR-based instrument offering a multiprobe array for this DSV. Based on Pulsed NMR technology, it achieves best in class precision of 10 ppb.

We are proud of our collaboration with Metrolab and to have been the first ones to use such a small Magnetic Field Camera with 14 sensors deployed over 160 mm diameter halfmoon!

MFC3045: End of an Era

Introduced 20 years ago, the Magnetic Field Camera MFC3045 has reached the end of its commercial life. It is succeeded by Metrolab’s new-generation Magnetic Field Camera Solution MFC2046. Built on the superior sensitivity of the NMR magnetometer PT2026, the MFC2046 can be delivered with a choice of two probe-array geometries.

Metrolab will stop sales of the MFC3045 main unit when the current stock is exhausted, which corresponds to roughly six months of normal sales. We will also stop the sales of new custom designs of the MFC3048 Probe Array, but until further notice, you will be able to reorder any existing MFC3048 Probe arrays.

We will continue to service the MFC3045 main unit for 2 years after the last delivery. Service after this date will be provided on a “best effort” basis: we trust that our equipment will continue to operate for many more years, and we want to support our customers as long as we have the necessary components, tooling, and know-how.

  • This firmware release is compatible with the previously released PT2026 software v. 1.3 and LabVIEW API v. 1.6.
  • This firmware upgrade adds the following functionality:
    • Handle remote control connected to Field Camera Amplifier (for Magnetic Field Camera)
    • Fix bugs with trigger in and trigger out

Note

The version 3.x Firmware requires version 4.x Desktop or Handheld software, and vice-versa.

Installation and upgrade procedure

To upgrade the firmware, you need a PC running Windows XP or Windows 7, for which you have Administrator rights. Ensure that you have a stable system and power source; a crash or power loss in the middle of the upgrade procedure is generally catastrophic, and will require the instrument to be sent back to the factory.

  1. Download and install the LabVIEW 2010 SP1 Run-Time Engine:

  3. Launch the THM1176 Firmware Updater from
    Start>Metrolab>THM1176>Firmware Upgrade>Firmware Upgrade 3.0

    Follow the instructions in the Updater window.

Installation Procedure

  1. Download and install the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2015 SP1 (32-bit):

  2. Download and install the NI-VISA Run-Time Engine 15.0:
