🧲 EZMag3D Installation Guide

EZMag3D is the new Graphical User Interface software for the Metrolab THM1176 and TFM1186 three-axis magnetometers.
This release supports Windows, macOS, and Linux.

1- ✨ What’s New in This Release

Improvements:

  • Zoom behavior in 2D plot
  • Playback parameter handling
  • Axis precision in 2D plot

Bug Fixes:

  • Resolved mapping issues with Raw and Yaw data affecting playback and loaded data
  • Device connection now possible even when field is out of range
  • Measurement file parameters now correctly override EZMag3D defaults
  • Improved alarm handling in AC mode

If you prefer the previous LabVIEW-based version of the THM1176 software, it’s still available on our website.

 

2- 💻 Windows Installation

✅ Check Your Processor Type

  1. Open Settings (Windows key + I)
  2. Go to System > About
  3. Look for “Processor” or “System type”:
    • ARM-based processor / ARM64 → ARM processor
    • x64-based processor → Intel or AMD processor
      Tip: “x64” = Intel/AMD, “ARM64” = ARM

📦 Installation Steps

Intel processor: ⬇️run EZMag3D v1.2.4 for Windows for Intel.zip⬇️

ARM processor:⬇️run EZMag3D v1.2.4 for Windows for ARM.zip⬇️

After installation, you’ll find:

  • A desktop shortcut to EZMag3D
  • A Start Menu folder Metrolab with:
    • EZMag3D program link
    • EZMag3D Manual (online help)

You can also launch EZMag3D via Windows search.

 

3-🖥️ macOS Installation

✅ Check Your Processor Type

  1. Click the Apple menu  in the top-left corner
  2. Select “About This Mac”
  3. Look at the “Chip” or “Processor” line:
    • Apple M1, M2, M3 → ARM processor
    • Intel(R) → Intel processor
      Tip: Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3) = ARM

📦 Installation Steps

Intel processor:⬇️ run EZMag3D v1.2.4 for MacOS for Intel.zip⬇️

ARM processor:⬇️ run EZMag3D v1.2.4 for MacOS for ARM.zip⬇️

The default installation location is your personal Applications folder.
After installation, you’ll find:

  • The EZMag3D app
  • A link to the EZMag3D Manual (online help)

You can launch EZMag3D via:

  • Double-clicking the icon
  • Creating an alias on the Dock or Desktop
  • Using Spotlight search

 

4-🐧 Linux Installation

This release is built and tested for Ubuntu 24.04 with an Intel processor.
If you’re using a different Linux distribution or hardware (e.g., ARM-based systems or older Ubuntu versions), please let us know your setup — we’ll explore how we can support it.

Tip: Ubuntu 24.04 + Intel = Supported

📦 Installation Steps

Run⬇️ EZMag3D v1.2.4 for Linux.zip⬇️

  • Follow the on-screen instructions
  • The installer may require a system reboot
  • Default installation location: /opt (admin rights required)

After installation, you’ll find:

  • The EZMag3D program
  • A link to the EZMag3D Manual (online help)

You can launch EZMag3D via:

  • Double-clicking the icon
  • GNOME Activities panel
  • Command line (EZMag3D.sh shell script)

5- ✨ What was New in The V1.2.3 Release

  • Accurate Measurements: EZMag3D V1.2.3 now displays measurement accuracy in real-time, ensuring precision in every reading. Take full advantage of the new calibration procedures for the THM1176-MF, offering 0.5% accuracy below 1.5 T.
  • High-Speed Acquisition: The latest generation of THM1176, released in Autumn 2024, supports acquisition speeds of up to 8 kHz, a significant upgrade from the previous 1 kHz. EZMag3D V1.2.3 fully supports this high-speed acquisition.
  • Simplified Data Analysis: Save your measurements as .xml or .csv files, making data analysis more straightforward and efficient.
  • Extended Mapping Functions: Export magnetic field measurements in three axes and coordinates of the data points, providing comprehensive mapping capabilities.
